50 Favorite Film Music Cues - Valley Girl
Modern English - I Melt with You
Fun fact. I bet you didn’t know that this song was about making love during the nuclear holocaust. Modern English recorded this song for their the 1982 album After the Snow, but the song didn’t gain air play in America until it was featured in the 1983 film Valley Girl. No other movie feels more 80’s (in a good way) than Valley Girl. In decades to come, it will become a period piece for sure. Wait, I mean …like, for sure. This sequence is one of my favorite scenes in film because it is EXACTLY what I think of when I think of “80’s film sequence set to a pop song”. No other “falling in love” montages works as well as this one, partly because the song is so good, partly because … it is adorably shot. This is what first love is supposed to look like or what we think it is supposed to look like. I have never found Nicolas Cage so attractive and haven’t since.
